Tampa sushi restaurant shorted workers’ pay by $150,000

The United States Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour Division recently found a local Tampa restaurant in violation of overtime laws and awarded the worker a combined $150,749.00 in damages.  Some of the workers were making less than $6 per hour which is well below the $8.05 minimum wage in Florida.  The Federal minimum wage is $7.25.   It was also discovered that a kitchen manager was being paid $230 per week and, according to Federal laws, should have been paid a minimum of $684 per week or at least $23,600 annually to be exempt from overtime pay.  If you have any questions regarding overtime laws, please call Jim Thompson or KC Hopkinson at 813-769-3900.  We are experienced employment attorneys and we will fight for the justice you deserve.
